FANAF 2020: the 44th edition rewards innovation

The General Assembly of FANAF will hold from the 17 to the 20 of February 2020 at Libreville Gabon. This 44th Edition will focus on the theme : "Data and innovation at the heart of insurance".

By way of reminder, the Federation of African National Insurance Companies better known by the acronym "FANAF" was created on March 17, 1976 in Yamoussoukro (Republic of Côte d'Ivoire). 

This professional organization, headquartered in Dakar, Senegal, pursues the following objectives : 

  • The promotion of Insurance and Reinsurance in Africa ; 
  • The representation and the defense of the interests of the profession ; 
  • The establishment of structures for reflection and cooperation in matters of Insurance and Reinsurance ; 
  • The continuous training of personnel in the insurance sector ; 
  • The popularization of Insurance and Reinsurance ; 
  • The establishment of professional relationships between Member Companies.

To achieve its noble objectives, FANAF has three statutory bodies, including two decision-making bodies (the General Assembly and the Executive Board) and an executive body of the General Secretariat.    

FANAF holds a symposium every year, besides its Ordinary General Meeting, to encourage reflection on topical issues in the insurance industry. 

Central theme: "Data and Innovation at the Heart of Insurance" (Box)

This 44th FANAF General Assembly 2020 marks the end of the second mandate of the current Executive Board, led by the Senegalese Adama NDIAYE. It should be noted that the Cameroonian Théophile Gérard MOULONG current President of the Association of Insurance Companies of Cameroon ASAC is a candidate for the election of the next executive office.

In addition to its 44th General Assembly, FANAF has been organizing since December 2019, a competition for the best insurance startups. A dozen of these “ASSURTECHS” will be selected following proposals from the national member associations of FANAF. Interested start-ups had until January 20 to submit their applications to the general secretariat of the professional insurance association of their country affiliated to FANAF. FANAF will devote one of the three days of its GA to the presentation of the most innovative insurance start-ups, to which the "FANAF Trophy" will be awarded.
